The Han River (한강) runs through the heart of Seoul for 41km. Its parks are where Seoulites escape the city — for picnics, cycling, sports, or simply watching the skyline at dusk. For visitors, the Han River offers a completely different side of Seoul: relaxed, scenic, and deeply local.

Han River Cruise

A night cruise on the Han River is one of Seoul's most memorable experiences. Boats depart from Yeouido Ferry Terminal with spectacular views of Seoul's skyline, especially after dark when the city lights up. The Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain — the world's longest bridge fountain — is the highlight.

Riverside Picnic (The Korean Way)

The definitive Han River experience. Grab fried chicken from a nearby restaurant, instant noodles from a 7-Eleven (they have hot water stations on site), and canned beer — then spread out on the grass. Rental mats are available from riverside kiosks for ₩2,000–₩5,000.

Best spots: Yeouido Hangang Park (largest), Ttukseom (closest to Hongdae/Gangnam), Banpo (best Rainbow Fountain views)

Cycling

Over 70km of dedicated cycling paths run along both banks of the Han River. Bike rentals are available at all Hangang Parks for ₩3,000/hour or ₩9,000/3 hours. The Yeouido–Ttukseom route (15km each way) offers gorgeous views throughout.

Electric kickscooters (Kakao T Bike) are also available via app throughout the park.

Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain

Holds the Guinness World Record for the longest bridge fountain. From spring through autumn, 380 nozzles shoot colored water 20 meters into the air in choreographed patterns set to music. Watch for free from the Banpo Hangang Park. Fountain runs at 20:00, 20:30, and 21:00 (check current season schedule).

💡 Sunset tip: Arrive at Banpo Hangang Park around 7PM, watch the sunset over the river, and stay for the 8PM fountain show. Pack snacks from GS25.
